Notes from Chris
Episode 1677
A few recent listener questions have been on the topic of making money from podcasts. How do you find sponsors? How can you get more distribution or audience? What are other ways of getting paid through podcasts? Today we have a related question: do some podcasts make more money than others—and not just some shows, but specific genres or categories? Guess what …the answer is yes! Some genres or categories do tend to be both bigger in terms of audience and in terms of profitability. Let’s peek under the hood… Also, funny story about the $20 million podcast. I’ll tell you more after the break and the question."Hi Chris, this is Craig from Omaha and I’ve been listening to the show for a couple of years. Thanks for stories and helpful content. I heard that Spotify acquired a podcast for twenty million dollars. What a crazy valuation! I assume most podcasts aren't worth very much money at all, but now I'm wondering: are there certain types of shows that are more profitable than others? Does a celebrity need to host a podcast for it to have a high valuation? Basically, if someone was going to start a podcast and could choose any genre, type, or style, and they wanted to make as much money as possible—what should they do? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks!"Listen to today's episode to learn more...
