What It's About
Today's caller is hoping to crack YouTube's algorithm. What should they know?
Notes from Chris
Episode 1960
How do you get someone to like you? The usual: you send flowers, you text 100 times a day, you ignore the restraining order because obviously they really want you to be persistent …. Wait, now this is reminding me of last week’s question about getting ghosted by a client. I’m still not over that! A better question: how do you get an algorithm to like you? You know an algorithm, it’s that thing that determines that Tik-Tok videos or Instagram Reels you see. It’s also what gives you your Google search results. Come to think of it, this algorithm is pretty involved in your life! Our caller is making a YouTube series, but not getting the traction he’d like. With YouTube, like all of these Web 2 services, the algorithm is really important. Is there anything he can do to have his videos seen by more people?"I've been making a weekly YouTube series, and every week I get a couple of hundred views. It's not usually much less than that, but also not usually much more—so in other words, growth is slow. I know that so much of what happens on YouTube is determined by the videos that are recommended to people, but it's unclear how this process works. How can I get the algorithm to like me??"Listen to today's episode to learn more...
