Episode 1969
Today’s episode is part of a new feature we’re doing in 2022 called ‘Your First $1,000.’ As you might surmise from the title, this is all about how someone made their first $1,000. How did they get to that point? Not their first $100,000—that’s cool, but it would probably be a long story. One thing I’ve learned is that once you begin to earn real money, the steps required to go to the next level—whether it’s $1,000 to $2,000, or even to $5,000 or $10,000 are often easier than that first real paycheck. With that in mind, today’s feature comes from Devon Chulick in San Francisco. We first featured him back on Episode #1690: Product Manager Starts “Airbnb for Dungeons and Dragons.” The business grew to become a hub for contracted dungeon masters who produce tournaments for corporate events and other occasions. But when he started, it was just Devon and an idea! Listen to today's episode to learn more...MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE:
- Thanks to Devon for telling us about their first $1,000. I hope you found it encouraging. Check out, StartPlaying.Games —maybe even hire your own dungeon master.
- Product Manager Starts “Airbnb for Dungeons and Dragons”: This product manager has achieved the dream of many kids born in the 80s and 90s: he gets paid to host and run his favorite tabletop roleplaying games.
- Childhood Game Master Earns $1 Million from Nerdy Kickstarter Campaigns: This Ohio man loves board games so much that he made his own—and when he tries to raise $6,000 through a Kickstarter campaign, he ends up with much more than he ever imagined.
- Two Friends Create Questionable Card Game: When a writer and a game designer want to learn more about their friends' personal lives, they play for keeps and develop a game that puts all the cards on the table.
