Words of Wisdom
As mentioned yesterday in Ep. 33, a key theme of starting a side hustle is bridging the gap between your skills and interests and a problem or need that someone else has.
This example is perfect because Sara was knowledgeable about both art AND real estate. She observed that she could do a much better job curating art installations for new apartment buildings—which makes sense because the developers and project managers don’t really specialize in that—and by doing this she could create a new source of income while also impacting the local community in a positive way.
Fun Fact
Speaking of impacting the community, Sara says that the best part of the experience has been connecting local artists with solid, paid contract work! Most artists don't know how to reach the interior design market, yet there’s a clear need that they can meet. This is truly a win-win experience for everyone.
Her long-term goal is to grow this side hustle into more of a full-time business so that she can focus on her other side hustle of actually making art herself and working as a professional artist. You can check out some of her work at SaraEverett.com.
